Gaming Floor
Grosvenor Casino Sunderland was previously known as Gala Sunderland before the Rank Group acquired the site in 2013. Inside you will find a choice of 14 live tables to play at, along with a good selection of slots machines from the likes of IGT and Novamatic.
Their four tables of American Roulette, 5 tables of Blackjack and 2 tables of Three Card Poker tables are positioned in pairs down the long and narrow gaming floor, leaving more than enough room to freely move about. You will also find the opportunity to shoot dice at their Craps table or spin the Big Six Wheel.
It is always worth contacting the casino directly to confirm table limits, however at the time of our visit up to £400 could be placed per number on American Roulette and up to £2000 per box on Blackjack. The maximum Ante on Three Card Poker was £400.
When it comes to slots they have all of the most popular games including Cleopatra, Pharaohs Fortune and Lobstermania which pay out jackpots up to £4000. They also have a selection of Super V+ Gaminator machines where you can play for big money progressive jackpots up to £10,000!
Fans of electronic roulette meanwhile can play live games from as little as 10p a spin from any of the numerous terminals that occupy the right-hand side of the casino.
Poker
If poker is more your thing you will be pleased to hear that Grosvenor Sunderland offer a variety of tournaments including Bounty Hunter, Win The Button and Deepstack 5 nights a week. As usual, early birds that register before the 7:30 pm start time will benefit from 10% extra starting chips.
£1/£1, £0.50/£0.50, £1/£2 No Limit Hold’em and £1/£2 Omaha cash games are played throughout the day. For all of the latest information feel free to check out the Grosvenor Sunderland Facebook page or download the Poker Live App.
Bar & Restaurant
The restaurant, bar and lounge are all located on the left-hand side of the casino. The Grosvenor Grill offers a variety of contemporary, quality cuisines which are served in a relaxed atmosphere.
Menu highlights include mouthwatering steaks from the signature grill such as the 7 oz fillet steak and grilled buffalo chicken. They also offer a choice of salads, a wide selection of meals from the stove, and of course some indulgent desserts to end your meal.
The neighbouring bar offers a wide selection of refreshing drinks along with its own bar menu which consists of light bites such as sandwiches and ciabattas, as well as a small selection of main meals including fish and chips and the lasagna.
Promotions, Events & Entertainment
One of the most popular promotions at Grosvenor Casino Sunderland is the cinema meal deal. For only £12 you will receive a free alcoholic drink, a meal at the bar and an adult cinema ticket valid at Empire Cinema Sunderland which is located opposite.
The venue also has a small stage which hosts live events every so often. Any upcoming performances will be advertised in advance on the events tab of their Facebook page.
Sports fans can also enjoy live sporting from around the globe including the local Sunderland vs Newcastle derby on one of five TVs in the modern entertainment lounge. They also have a couple of screens on either side of the bar so you won’t miss any of the action if you fancy another drink!
Don’t forget you can collect points on your Grosvenor Play Points reward card every time you play on a live table or on any of the electronic machines. Points can also be collected every time you purchase any food or drink in the restaurant or at the bar. The points soon mount up and can be spent like money in the casino, online or even on gifts.
Parking & Transport
Parking is available in the Sunniside multi-storey car park via the entrance on William Street. If you take your ticket to reception they will happily validate it for you.
Both Sunderland and St Peter’s train stations are within 10 minutes walk (half a mile) of the casino. Likewise, you can hop on and off the local metro services which stop at both Sunderland and St Peter’s.
The closest bus stops can be found less than 2 minutes away on either John Street or High St West.
Dress Code, Membership & ID
The dress code is smart casual. No hats, ripped jeans, or sportswear.
The casino is free to enter but all customers must sign up for a free membership at reception before using any of the facilities. You will need to bring a valid form of ID such as a driving license or passport to complete the sign-up process which won’t take more than a couple of minutes.
